My name is John Richardson – I’m a 46 year old writer, speaker and business coach who lives in Northern Ireland with my wife and daughter. My daughter is an actress who plays Princess Myrcella in the HBO drama Game of Thrones.
In May 2004 I set myself a challenge. I was a hacker golfer who couldn’t break 100 and I decided I wanted to shoot a level par round, or better, at my local course, the par 71, 6300 yard Hamilton course at Blackwood golf centre – twice the host of the Irish PGA championship. And I was going to do it within a year.
During the year the great and the good told me that it wasn’t possible. Sam Torrance told me to “dream on”, Darren Clarke told me that three years would be the minimum time I would expect to be able to do it in and countless experienced golfers scoffed at my chances.
But 363 days later, I completed a one under par round of 70 at Blackwood. It was a year of madness and mayhem. I hit more than 70,000 golf balls, read at least 60 books and watched dozens of instructional videos late into the night. I encountered some amazingly helpful characters along the way and even managed to stay married during the process!
The challenge was recorded in a monthly column in Golf Digest Ireland and nearly all the UK magazines carried articles on me with two multiple page articles about my success in Today’s Golfer.
Since then I’ve written a book on the challenge “Dream On – The challenge to break par” which has become an international best seller. It has been the best-selling golf book in the UK for several years and is translated into German and Spanish.
The book is currently being turned into a feature film by Artifice media at Elstree Studios in North London for release in summer of 2014.
The book and movie are very much the personal story of how the challenge impacted on my business and personal life. But my intention was always to create an instructional program to help other amateur golfers, at all levels, use some of the incredible resources and help that I gathered during the year to transform their own games. And thus the Break Par Blueprint was born.
We’ve now helped many thousands of golfers dramatically improve their games with this program and are constantly refining and developing it in an effort to ensure we can create the very best “real life” golf instructional program on the planet.
